"No receipt from the machine and nearly 10 mins waiting for help"

As I was leaving the NCP car park in the Rushes, Loughborough, I inserted my paid ticket in the machine and waited for it to come out again. It didn’t. As I needed the receipt to claim back at work (£7.50) I pressed the help button and was put on hold.

Fortunately there were two lanes and this wasn’t such a busy time, because as cars kept driving past through the other gate and my wife went out looking for someone to help, nearly 10 minutes passed.

When someone finally answered the phone they apologised and asked for an email address they could send me the receipt to in five minutes. I wasn’t very keen to shout out my email address for the car park to hear and even less excited with the prospect of NCP promo emails landing in my inbox as a consequence, so I asked if he was anywhere I could go see him. “I’m sorry sir” he said, “but this service is based in Manchester”.

So I shouted out my email address to the intercom, had to repeat and spell it out because cars were driving past, and unsurprisingly he seems to have got it wrong because the receipt never arrived.

So, because NCP doesn’t seem to think that Loughborough deserves employing a car park attendant, I have to waste my time chasing them up for a £7.50 receipt. Automation should be improving your clients’ experience, not just cutting down costs (and jobs) at their expense..
