Ashby-de-la-Zouch Castle
Impressive ruin of Norman manor house, fortified and dismantled
by the Roundheads in the Civil War. The keep is about 75ft high. Mary Queen
of Scots, James I and Charles I stayed here. Situated at South St, Ashby-de-la-Zouch,

Beacon Country Park
One of the highest points in Leicestershire at 802ft. Over 180 acres
of grass, bracken, woodland and moorland with a great variety of plant
and bird-life and the remains of a Bronze age settlement. Situated off

Site of the battle of the War of the Roses in 1485, where Richard
III lost his life. The visitor centre features interesting models and displays.

Bradgate Park
This is Leicestershire's largest park, 850 acres, surrounding the
ruins of the 15th century Bradgate House, where Lady Jane Grey, Queen of
England for nine days in 1553, lived for most of her life. The park is
noted for its herds of red and fallow deer and contains a mixture of heath,
bracken, grass covered slopes, rocky outcrops and small woodlands. The
Visitor Centre includes displays on the park and a book and gift shop.
There is also a Country Park Shop and Information Point at Newton Linford
car park.
